About

My name is Heather Roach. I am a veteran science teacher (just wrapped up year 29!) from Anchorage, Alaska. While I love teaching, travel is my passion. One might say that I teach to support my travel habit. While I won’t make millions from teaching, that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the wonders of travel – I just need to be smart about it & plan wisely. I make the most of miles I earn from travel and responsible credit card use. I dream of my retired life where I am not tied to summer travels & can take advantage of off season bargains and smaller crowds.

I am happily married to my “Travel Prince” , a newly retired teacher after 25 years of teaching, who will feature prominently on my site. I stumbled across the term “Travel Prince” to describe someone who isn’t involved at all in the travel planning, but is happy and supportive to go along for any adventure I organize. I’m fortunate to have such a willing partner.

I am the mother of two boys, both graduates of the school where I teach. Our oldest son is a 2023 grad from the University of Kansas (“Rock Chalk”) with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in AE also at KU. He loves to play soccer, cheers for Arsenal (I don’t hold that against him), and enjoys playing MTG. He is also a willing travel partner (especially at mom’s expense!) to travel across the pond to catch a premier league match over our spring breaks. I think the travel bug has bitten him and I look forward to watching his bright future unfold.

My youngest son is a recent 2024 grad from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Game Design & Development. He is currently doing contract work as a Virtual Reality programmer for a local Anchorage company. He hopes to someday work for a AAA game company and expand his use of the Japanese language. While he seems immune to the travel bug, he has been lucky enough to have traveled the world, his favorite travels including Iceland and New Zealand (he is a die hard LOTR fan). He looks forward to a graduation trip to Japan. His lack of desire to travel serves me well as we have a built in pet & house sitter.

Zoe, Frank, and puppy Keeley round out the Roach clan. Zoe is our 14.5 year old black-lab mix. While she has one foot over the Rainbow bridge and can’t walk very far due to health issues, we love and cherish the remaining days we have with her. Frank is our beloved cat who, as most cats do, rules the roost. Living with dogs doesn’t sway him in the least – they know who’s in charge! Keeley is our 8-month old Belgian Malinois mix rescue pup. We adopted her from a local rescue group to help fill the massive hole left by the passing of our beloved chocolate lab, Lyra. My other plan was to provide the Travel Prince a companion during his retirement years. Yes – having pets can put a dent into extended travel plans, but so far we seem to have found a nice balance.
